Head's Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to look at our website, which is designed to help you with any initial questions about life at Downsend. I trust that you will find it useful. However, it is no substitute for seeing the school itself so I hope you will be encouraged to come and visit us to see our girls and boys at work and at play.

Downsend is a large, independent preparatory school educating approximately 900 girls and boys from age 2 to 13 at its four sites in Leatherhead, Ashtead and Epsom. Our younger children attend one of our three nursery & pre-preparatory schools or Lodges, before moving up to the main school site in Leatherhead at age 6.

This is a friendly school in which relationships between staff and pupils are excellent and happy faces abound. School should first and foremost be fun. Happy children in a welcoming and stimulating environment work hard and achieve excellent results and Downsend is proud of its pupils and their successes in a wide range of examinations each year.

The benefits of continuity in education are exceptionally strong throughout each section of the school and provide outstanding academic progression and development. The needs and requirements of every pupil are understood at each stage of their education - ensuring they are constantly progressing and improving.

You are always welcome to come and visit us, so please call our Admissions Secretary on 01372 372311 or email her and she will be happy to arrange an appointment for you.
