Academic Standards
The Senior School builds on the excellent practice of the Junior and Middle Schools, maintaining the vibrant and diverse approach to learning, but focusing specifically on the needs of 13+. The pupils follow a different timetable and are expected to be more independent and organised. Behaviour guidelines and expectations are clear but the approach is relaxed and informal and relationships between the staff and pupils are very good.
Senior School pupils are taught in well-resourced subject specialist rooms by subject specialist teachers to maximise continuity and to prepare each pupil appropriately throughout this important two years.
Academic focus is towards preparation for Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations in the final year. There is an increased timetable allocation for the four Common Entrance subjects and homework is set in all the academic subjects.
The curriculum is broad with a 'carousel' system operating in the non Common Entrance subjects of Art, ICT, DT, PSHE and Food Technology. These are taught on a rotational basis and students have ample opportunities to involve themselves in all aspects of school life. Games, PE and Swimming also have suitable curriculum time afforded to them.
Provision for SEN and Gifted & Talented Children is also made.
