World Book Day & More Award Winning Books

World Book Day 2010 began with an interactive assembly for the Middle School - I challenged them with a series of pictures that were clues to phrases used everyday and related in some way to books and reading.

Following on from this we have had a day of reading and lots of book borrowing, it is wonderful to see so much activity in the library and so much enthusiasm for books.  Around the country today libraries and schools are promoting books using a variety of activities.

World Book Day is important for bringing together books and their readers in a celebration of all things bookish and earlier this week I was once again lucky enough to meet with authors of children's books and learn about why they considered it to be important that books make children laugh.  I will write more about this in the blog so keep an eye open for updates!

In the meantime some exciting news - the Blue Peter Book Award Winners were announced yesterday.  The enormously popular and influential Blue Peter Book Awards have been recognising and celebrating the best authors, the most creative illustrators and the greatest reads for children since 2000. The favourite of the three is voted Blue Peter Book of the Year and this year the overall winner was Frozen In Time by Ali Sparkes.

The winners are:
