Book Week at Downsend School

01 February 2010

Junior School pupils in a riot of costume and colour invaded Downsend School, Leatherhead as a suitably fitting finale to the school’s Book Week.  The Junior School were asked to dress up as their favourite ‘Book Hero’ for their Mufti Day costumes and they did not disappoint.
The day’s activities were entered into with great enthusiasm by all and were a culmination of a fun packed and inspiring Book Week at Downsend School. There were ‘Harry Potters’, ‘Cats in the Hats’, unicorns and witches, all heroes from books the children know and love.
Book Week is an established, annual event at the school and Head of Junior School, Kirsty Keep, said: ‘Book Week at Downsend School is all about inspiring children to read. Learning through fun and bringing subjects to life through interactive learning is at the heart of everything we do. The children have had an opportunity to spend a day as their favourite book hero, and their imaginative costumes have been inspirational.  This has been a real reminder that reading is still the best way to explore our imaginations.’
