Brass Concert Review
12 December 2011
The annual Informal Brass Concert held on Thursday 1st December 2011 was a huge success and, in Mr Boote's opinion, was the best Brass Concert held at Downsend since the concerts first started seven years ago.
All together there were fifteen performers, who all played to a very high standard, with music ranging from Christmas favourites through to classical and jazz. Other highlights of the concert included 'Suo Gan' played by three students who have only been playing trumpet since half-term, the Downsend Brass Band playing the Dad's Army theme and Mr Boote who performed a Grade 8 piece, 'The Woodland Song' by Eric Ball.
Pre-concert, we had the pleasure of being entertained by the Downsend Carol Band and Singers, led by Joshua Marza with carol favourites 'Silent Night' and 'Away in a Manger'.
Thank you to Mr Slack for his superb piano accompaniment, the DPA for providing the drinks, Mr Murray-Pearce and Mrs Kellet for photographs, the ladies in the office and not forgetting Dave for the chairs! Plus a huge thank you to all performers, their parents and family for their wonderful support.
