Robin Hood - The Pantomime
15 December 2011
The appearance of various Senior School boys in brightly coloured wigs, high heels and dresses has become rather a tradition during December at Downsend, and this year Tom Entwistle and Oscar Jaffer as the pantomime Dames were joined by a whole troop of boys in tights as the Senior School Drama Club presented ‘Robin Hood – The Pantomime’. Martha Whitefoord, Nicole Vanstone, Annabel Grant and Kirsty Bizaoui were wonderful Principle Boys joined by the fantastic Merry Men, Villagers and School Children in their attempts to thwart the villains.
A pantomime is an essential part of a traditional English Christmas and the audience certainly entered into the spirit of the occasion, hissing and booing the evil Prince John, Sheriff of Norbury and the wicked Normans. Daniel Richardson definitely showed a different side to his character as he plotted and schemed against Robin Hood in the role of Prince John! A very different role to his Elvis impersonation last year!
This was the largest production the Senior Drama Club has ever put on and so I am hugely grateful to Miss Khodabuccus, Katy Butt, Becky Walker, and Jo Bedford for all their help during the past three months. Thank you also to Louise Ellis-Barrett for helping me to source the costumes. Thanks must also go to St John’s School who, amazingly, were able to lend us a Pantomime Deer costume for Deer Mee!
Thank you also to all the parents and staff who helped with scenery, lighting, sound and styling hair and make-up – you are an amazingly talented group of people and very generous with your time.
