Wellie Walk for Charity

01 February 2010

Over 100 children, ranging from nursery age to 6, donned their wellington boots and raincoats for charity and walked as many times round their school field as they could in 20 minutes.  The children who all attend Leatherhead Lodge were raising money for their nominated charities; 'Guide Dogs for the Blind' and 'SAVI', a local charity helping visually impaired children in Surrey.  Despite the awful weather the children smiled and sang as they completed their laps.  Prior to the walk a representative from 'SAVI' talked to the children about how their money would help partially sighted boys and girls, buying things such as balls with bells, so that they could play catch just as the children at Leatherhead Lodge do.
Gill Brooks, Head Teacher at the school, said ‘The children walked as many laps as they could, kindly sponsored by friends and family to raise money for the charities we have chosen to support this year. I am delighted to announce that we have raised a wonderful £1,170. Thank you so much for your kind generosity.’
