Half Term Pleasures

Posted on 07 June 2010 in Library Blog by Louise Ellis- Barrett

I love the holidays not because it is time away from work but because I can spend more time reading books that I know I want to be able to tell you all about!

This holiday not only have I been reading a lot of brilliant new books, some so new that I have in fact been reading advance copies, but I have also been putting together the next issue of my book review magazine, Armadillo which should be live online in the next few days - watch this space for more news...

In the meantime back to good books I have read.  Firstly I can recommend Mistress of the Storm by Melanie Walsh a tale of adventure, smugglers and more.  Then there is the very funny and lighthearted How Ali Ferguson Saved Houdini by Elen Caldecott and finally, for older readers at least, Fallen Grace by Mary Hooper a wonderfully imagined historical tale with echoes of a Dickensian London but more upbeat and relevant to a modern yougn teenager!  All great reads.

At the other end of the scale I read a charming story called Millie's Marvellous Hat by Satoshi Kitamura and then Sing a Song of Bottoms by Jeanne Willis and Adam Stower (a regualr book Week visitor) a brilliantly funny and silly picture book.

There should be something here for everyone, especially this week when tired of revision and exams you are in need of a break - if that is the case then look no further than the audio-book collection in the library, go home put your feet up and get lost in  good story (being read to you!)...
