Stuck in the Snow

Posted on 01 December 2010 in Library Blog by Louise Ellis- Barrett

So here we all are, stuck in the snow wondering what to do with ourselves... My solution is to stay in the warm and do lots of reading, probably not a surprise I suppose but I have been out in the snow and its cold and wet!! So what have I chosen to read? There are no end of books on the snow, being stuck in the snow, enjoying the snow, take for example Horrid Henry and the Abominable Snowman or Lost in the Snow... What I could really do with however is a book that fills me with a warm glow. This could be a book set in the sun or one that is full of love and caring feelings or even a funny story that makes me giggle and forget I am cold but what really works for me is a combination of all these factors. So what have I been busy reading? In the interests of making sure there is an option for everyone I have been reading stories for all ages. To begin with there was Magic Farm by Ashley Birch. I am very lucky to have been sent this ahead of its publication date in March 2012 but I can assure you I will write about it again as it is a very funny and heart-warming new series of stories for young readers. Featuring Hannah and Oliver, a magic scarecrow and a magic farm this is a recipe for magic and wonder. A charming, sunny and warm set of stories for younger readers. If you want to read something now then you can't go wrong with the Dino FC series of books - you may not be able to get out and play a game today but you can sit and enjoy one played by the Dino FC team instead! Then for older readers I can highly recommend the new title from the irrepressible Terry Pratchett. I Shall Wear Midnight is funny, pacey & full of action, adventure, magic and of course lots of silliness. Choose any of these books and I guarantee you will soon have forgotten the cold!
