Year 6 Trip - Day One

Posted on 09 May 2010 in School Trip Blog by Gappies

The group boarded the coach from school and we had an easy journey down to Portsmouth to catch the ferry across the Channel. We arrived at 'Amazon World' in good time, and the children were met with a beautiful variety of animals that inhabit the Amazon Rainforest, from toucans and flamingos to the slow-moving sloth and giant ant-eaters.

The children then had a chance to burn off some energy in the play area, with Mr Howe orchestrating fun time-challenges and obstacle courses, before the children were given a wonderful display by the bird handlers, with Mr Turvey taking the role of a tree as a volunteer for the show.

We then arrived at PGL and the children were given a guided tour of the camp. They were shown to their chalets, where they had to unpack and make their beds - some more successfully than others! Afterwards, dinner was served, which gave the children a chance to relax before the evening's entertainment.

The PGL staff organised a tournament of various activities which tested the children’s teamwork skills, with several Downsend staff involved. These included group skip-rope and particularly intense space-hopper races.

Did you find out if any of them had ever made a bed by themselves before? Definitely a new skill for life I need to introduce to the rest of my family!

Sounds like a brilliant day. I like the idea of 'intense space-hopper races'. Might try it!
