Senior School Book of the Week
Troubadour by Mary Hoffman

For a noble girl to be in love with a Troubadour is not allowed but this does not stop Elinor from falling in love with Bertran.  Bertran however has his own worries for he has witnessed a murder which will catapult his country into war.  Love and war combine in this rich, fulfilling story.

The libraries at Downsend School are a warm, friendly and welcoming place for children to enjoy.  The wealth of books aims to provide them with a wide choice of material to borrow or read quietly during the course of the day.

Children may borrow books to take home and are all provided with their own library card.  Lively and informative displays with the latest news from the world of books are used to encourage wider reading and the librarian is always on hand to answer any questions or help with locating books.

A library lunchtime club for the Junior School children encourages them to come along and read, enjoy story cassettes or complete reading related challenges whilst in the Senior School the 'Books & Buns' reading group meet once a week to discuss their latest choices.

During the annual Book Week, held each January, the whole school comes alive with reading, visiting authors, poets and dramatists.  The libraries and reading are central to the life of the school so please visit these pages regularly to find out all the latest news.
