Middle School
Welcome to the Middle School at Downsend
The Middle School is a lively and caring community, which builds on the excellent practice established in our Junior School to gradually provide pupils with a greater sense of independence and responsibility. They are encouraged to develop their skills in organisation, self-discipline and relationships within the school community.
We aim to create a positive and enthusiastic learning atmosphere where striving to do your best at work and play are considered to be very important. When the children move up to our Senior School they have benefited from a strong grounding across all subjects in the curriculum. We also instil a sense of honesty, respect and good manners in our children, so that they can make good progress not only in their academic studies, but in their life skills as well.
Our ethos is simple: work hard, play hard, be kind and considerate to others and make a positive contribution to the school community.
Adrian Dunning, Head of Middle School
From September, the Prep School will be divided into a Lower School (Years 2 – 5) and an Upper School (Years 6 – 8). The Lower School will ensure that your child receives the highest levels of both academic learning and pastoral care. The Upper School will introduce them to the best aspects of senior pupil life at Downsend, whilst they embark on a more focused preparation for 13+ departure; following the Downsend tradition of gaining a wide range of awards to successful senior schools.
