Saturday Fun Swim Sessions

Regrettably the DPA Saturday Fun Swim will be postponed from 1 March, 2010 due to new regulations being imposed by the RLSS.  We will endeavour to reinstate this as soon as possible if the considered alternative arrangements can be implemented.

The Downsend Parents' Association (DPA) aims to create a fun and friendly social environment for all. It is an active body comprising of parents who organise events throughout the year to provide an opportunity for parents, staff and pupils to get together in a relaxed, informal setting. Each of the school sites has its own association.

The school year starts with regular events such as the Family Fun Day, Christmas Fair, Christmas Craft Activity, Quiz Night, Golf Tournament and finishes with the ever popular Summer Ball. The DPA is frequently involved in helping to support special events in the school, including seasonal celebrations for the pupils, the many concerts, drama presentations and sports events. It also runs the second-hand uniform shop.

Any monies raised from these events directly benefit the children, supporting year group activities, indoor play resources, equipment for drama productions and sporting events.  Donations are also made to the school's charity.

At the beginning of each academic year, the DPA asks for volunteers as 'classroom representatives' who organise social events such as coffee mornings, lunches and Christmas get-togethers for all parents and carers of children in their particular class.

The DPA makes a small one-off charge per family for joining the association when your child arrives on the main site. The contact details for the various DPA members are printed in the school calendar. Alternatively, they can be contacted by email.
