Pastoral Care
Each child in the Junior School has a Form Teacher who takes them for the majority of their timetabled day. The day begins with a short form time, and once a week the class has an extended Circle Time in which to raise all manner of issues and discuss achievements, concerns and current problems. In Years 2 & 3, the children also have Classroom Assistants working with them.
Playtime is well-supervised and is kept as relaxing and fun as possible as it can sometimes be a confusing time for young children. There are a variety of toys for the children to play with, and the playgrounds are split into specific zones - a gentle play area, a football area, an imaginative play area and a quiet area. The children are also encouraged to bring in a small toy.
We are always happy to talk to parents about any particular worries or concerns and the first port of call should always be the Form Teacher, as this is the person who will know the children best and will see them most frequently. The next person to contact is the Head of Year. The staff from each year group meet weekly to discuss academic and social issues and are very well informed as to current issues. In addition, the Head of Year, the Head of Junior School and the Headmaster are readily available and approachable at all times.
Our aim is to encourage the children in all that they do and effort and good behaviour is rewarded with a system of stars, merits and house points.
