Going Green

Posted on 21 March 2011 in Library Blog by Louise Ellis- Barrett

Having had a very busy weeekend organising TWO new bookcases it was a great pleasure to then find some time to read some of the books that I was puting on them as well as discovering that I had space for more new acquisitions!

There were two books that gave me great pleasure over the weekend.  The first Recycling Things to Make and Do is packed full of some great ideas for things to be made using the most unlikely of materials.  For example a dangly mobile to brighten up a bedroom make use of lids, egg boxes and material scraps.  Ribbons and buttons can be used for lovely collage, plastic bags make great beads and of course there are plenty of projects using scrap paper.

Once your creativity has been exhausted then why not turn to Grow Your Own by Ester Hall.  Thsi is the story of Sidney Bean, his mum and his granny.  When Sidney spends a whole summer in the country learning about the garden and its produce the results are quite amazing though when you turn to the very last page you will find that Sid shares a secret with me!  A lovely picture book that describes the wodners of the garden and may even provide soem inspiration!
