Sporting Fixture Locations

In addition to our excellent indoor sports facilities, the school playing fields extend to 16 acres, with sufficient pitches to allow Downsend to host major sporting tournaments and similar events with comfort. There are two all-weather cricket wickets, a floodlit, all-weather hockey pitch (which is also used for netball, soccer and tennis) and six hard tennis and netball courts in the grounds.

The major team sports played at Downsend are soccer, netball, cricket and hockey with rugby introduced as an option at the age of ten. Athletics and tennis play an important part in the sporting calendar in the summer term.

As many children as possible are given the opportunity to represent the school. Competitive matches are arranged in soccer, netball, cricket, rounders, rugby, athletics, tennis, swimming, hockey and basketball providing a wide field of opportunities for the children.

We encourage all the children to develop a positive attitude towards their sport, teaching them that it is important that they should strive to do their best either at an individual or team level.
