Pre-Prep Admissions Process

Step 1

Initial enquiry

Contact us for an initial conversation about your child and to check availability in the relevant year group

Our prospectus is available via our online request form, through which you can request a printed copy which Sarah Concanon our Registrar will send you.

Step 2

Arrange a visit – Open Day or Private tour

To get a real insight into what makes Downsend so special, come to one of our Open Events meet and hear from our Headteacher, take a tour of the school and meet our children and staff.

Private tours are available anytime during term time and can include a visit to both the Pre-Prep and Main School sites.  Parents always have the chance to meet the Headteacher during their visit.

At the end of the tour the Headteacher will answer any questions you may have and will provide you with a Registration form.

Step 3

Complete and return a registration form

Once you have finalised your decision we ask you to complete our Registration Form and send your non-refundable Registration Fee of £75 to Sarah Concanon.  Alternatively you can complete the Registration form online

Sarah will contact you to confirm receipt of your form and fee and is always available by telephone or email to answer any further questions you may have. Following your registration she will keep in touch with you every step of the way.

Step 4 - For children entering Reception and Year 1

Attend an Introductory session

We do not assess children entering First Steps and Rising Reception but do like to meet those registered for Reception places and Year 1.

After your registration form has been received, Sarah will contact you to arrange an ‘Introduction Morning’ at the Pre-Prep. This session is designed to assess mutual fit between school and family.  It is important to us that we can help each child reach their full potential and we provide feedback and have a discussion with you following this session.

Step 5

Receive an offer

First Steps and Rising Reception- An offer of a place is made following your visit to school.

Reception and Year 1 entry – Offers for places are sent following the ‘Introductory Session’

If we cannot offer a place immediately, we operate a waiting list and will get in touch once a place becomes available.

Step 6

Confirmation of Acceptance

To secure your child’s place, simply complete and return the necessary paperwork, as soon as possible, together with the £750 deposit.

To help with the transition children joining our nursery will be invited for a settling-in session, getting to know school and taking part in some fun activities.

For those children joining us in Reception and Year 1, they will be invited in to school to meet their teacher and spend time in their new classroom.
