Prep Admissions Process

Step 1

Initial enquiry

Contact us for an initial conversation about your child and to check availability in the relevant year group

Our prospectus is available via our online request form, through which you can request a printed copy which Sarah Concanon our Registrar will send you.

Step 2

Arrange a visit – Open Day or Private tour

To get a real insight into what makes Downsend so special, come to one of our Open Events meet and hear from our Headmaster, take a tour of the school and meet our children and staff.

Private tours are available anytime during term time and can include a visit to both the Pre-Prep and Main School sites.  Parents always have the chance to meet the Headmaster during their visit.

At the end of the tour Sarah Concanon, our Registrar, will answer any questions you may have and will provide you with a Registration form.

Book your place now.

Step 3

Registration

Once you have finalised your decision we ask you to complete our Registration Form and send your non-refundable Registration Fee of £75 to Sarah Concanon.  Alternatively you can complete the Registration form online

Sarah will contact you to confirm receipt of your form and fee and is always available by telephone or email to answer any further questions you may have. Following your registration she will keep in touch with you every step of the way.

Step 4

Attend an Assessment Day

After your registration form has been received, Sarah will contact you to arrange for your child to join us for an Assessment Day. After the tests your child will be allocated a ‘buddy’ and spend the remainder of the day with a class in their current Year Group.

For children joining in Year 3, our main Assessment morning takes place in January, preceded by an Introductory morning, a week before where the Headmaster welcomes the children into school.

We are a mixed ability school but assess potential students to determine their current academic level through a short English and Maths test. Every application is assessed on their merits and we accommodate as many prospective pupils as possible.

Step 5

Receive an offer

7+ Entry – Offers will be sent at the end of January

Additional year groups – We will contact you shortly after your individual assessment to discuss next steps with the Headmaster.

Please note

We endeavour to give you enough time to make your decision but please be aware that our offers will be time limited. Where we can offer a place straight away, we will.  But as places are subject to availability, your child may go on a waiting list.

Step 6

Confirmation of Acceptance

To secure your child’s place, simply complete and return the necessary paperwork, as soon as possible, together with the £750 deposit.

As part of our induction process, your child will be invited to spend a morning or afternoon with us prior to joining the school.  You can also meet with Senior Staff to discuss your child’s transition into Downsend.

We will also send you a Parent Handbook, containing all the information you need, in plenty of time before your child starts school.
