The beginning of this summer term is unlike any other that I have experienced in my 39 years of teaching and certainly not the end to a teaching career that I expected! Likewise, for everyone, these times are presenting challenges which are testing our creativity, resourcefulness and our need to retain a degree of normality.
Although Ashtead Pre-Prep remains closed at the start of this term, our education programme continues with our bespoke online learning lessons and activities. We know that nothing can replace actually being in school, and being taught and cared for in person, but we hope that, through our Online Teaching and Learning Programme, our children will continue to love learning and be challenged.
The coming weeks will undoubtedly contain many new challenges but we are sure that, by working together as a school community, our children will have structure, as well as the time to be creative and pursue more open-ended activities, maintaining a happy balance between academic work and play.
Before the Easter break, we all had an opportunity to experience online learning and how it would work and feel for each of our families and for our teachers. I would like to thank you all for wholeheartedly embracing this new way of learning for our children. The teachers were determined to make their lessons as personal, practical and engaging as possible through this new and unfamiliar way of teaching. Based on the wonderful feedback that we received from children and parents alike, I think we are on the right track. As with all things new, we discover more about the program we are using and additional options that will be available to us as our online learning programme develops. This is a different and exciting journey for us all. Please continue to feedback your thoughts about our teaching programme so that we can all maintain a manageable work/ life balance during this period of lockdown.
