Ashstead Pre Prep Technology Platforms

Find out about the technology platforms we will use to support our Online Teaching and Learning programme and how to access them

Teachers will continue to plan and deliver the curriculum the children would have been accessing in school.

But, in these changed times, we will work with age-appropriate technology platforms to deliver that learning in a way that delivers the best possible experience for your child.

Technology platforms and how they will be used

Our staff will deliver our Online Teaching and Learning Programme using the following technology platforms:

  • Seesaw
  • Google Suite – synchronous sessions

Work will be set the evening prior to the day it is to be completed, which we hope will give parents an advanced view of what their child’s day will look like.

Pupils will be able to complete their activities using the most appropriate method depending on the task involved. It may be appropriate to complete work directly onto Seesaw, to use the yellow exercise book, plain paper or possibly to download the work and then either print it out or complete it on a computer. Work that has been completed on paper can be sent back, via Seesaw, to teachers by uploading it as a scanned image or photograph.

We hope that the flexibility of these arrangements will help to take some of the pressure off parents, as we encourage pupils to develop their independent learning and feel more connected with their teachers.

What is Seesaw?

Seesaw is an award-winning digital portfolio that allows you to see your child’s learning like never before. Teachers, parents and children can all access videos, audio recordings and notes in one place, taking the onus off solely the parent supporting their child’s learning.

How will it work?

In these uncertain times, we want to make sure we are balancing screen time for our pupils – Seesaw opens and closes each teaching day on the screen but provides resources and activities away from a computer or phone. On a teaching day morning, parents and children will log in to Seesaw where the teacher will have a daily check in with pupils (read a story, say hello, set instructions for the day). Then at the end of the day, the parent and child log back in to add photos and videos, documenting the day’s learning that the teacher can then comment on.

Why is it perfect for our families?

  • Empowerment of pupils – pupils will have a clear connection with their teacher at the beginning of each school day, giving them clear instructions on the day ahead. This relieves parents from thinking up activities and gives children independence in understanding the task and reporting back whilst keeping a connection to the school routine.
  • Development of metacognitive skills – children will report back on the day’s work using video, voice recordings or pictures. This is crucial to the development of metacognitive skills, allowing the child to learn about learning.
  • Easily accessible – access from phone or desktop with easy to use, intuitive software.

How do I access Seesaw?

You can find out more and log in via the Seesaw website.

Access to platforms

If at any time you are experiencing difficulty accessing any of the platforms, please contact Sarah Hegarty at ashteadpre-prep@downsend.co.uk.

Our hope is that the technology that we have selected to use is both reliable and simple in terms of accessibility.  However, as with all technology, things can go wrong.  For this reason, if you encounter any technical issues please contact:-  OnlineLearningSupport@Cognitaschools.co.uk

The online learning programme is intended to be flexible in order to accommodate the differing needs of our Ashtead families. Although the lessons and activities set by the teachers are designed for the children to work independently, most of our young children will require some adult supervision. All classes will receive focus lessons each day. These are key core curriculum tasks that support your child’s learning development and progress. If you find that some days it is impossible to complete the set tasks, don’t worry as they can be completed later. We would ask that you let the teacher know that this is your intention, as they will be able to alter or differentiate activities accordingly if this lesson is part of a sequence.

Outlined below are the key focused lesson expectations for each year group:

First Steps: One key focus lesson/ activity

Rising Reception: One key focus lesson plus an additional activity

Reception: Two key focus lessons

Year One: Three key focus lessons

In addition to these lessons, the children will receive a daily welcome and a story for the end of the day.
