Young children need to be supported and taught to live healthy lives. We recognise the role we have in enhancing pastoral care, ensuring that children are active and obtain nutritious, healthy & balanced meals to fuel their bodies and minds.
All children are offered fresh fruit and milk or water at break-time.
All Pre-Prep children, who attend for a whole day are served lunch. In addition, children who attend for a morning only are also able to choose to stay for lunch in school before they go home from. Joanne Thomson, our school cook, provides exciting and nutritionally balanced lunches and all foods are prepared and cooked on the premises. We are therefore able to cater for specific dietary requirements.
The majority of the staff at Pre-Prep Epsom are First Aid trained, including specific paediatric first aid training. In addition, all staff receive Epipen training and ‘what to do in the event of an asthma attack’ training at the beginning of each academic year.
We engage our children in physical activity wherever possible. We have a large garden and playground for the children to use during their 2 playtimes and lunchtime each day. Our playground has large play equipment, bikes and trikes to keep the children active. In addition, our First Steps children have free flow access to their own contained outdoor area enabling them to get out and be active throughout their sessions.
Our Rising Reception, Reception and Year 1 children have specialist sports coaching each week, and Reception and Year 1 swim weekly at Downsend main site. Every Friday afternoon our First Steps and Rising Reception children take part in additional planned physical activities designed to improve gross and fine motor skill, balance and co-ordination.
We strongly believe that active children are happy children!
