Teacher Spotlight Series - Meet Stephanie Elmas
Welcome back to our second installment of our Teacher Spotlight Series. Today we meet another new member of the inspirational Downsend team, Stephanie Elmas, a specialist in English:
Welcome to Downsend School! How was your first day?
My first day was hectic but fun. It was great to meet my Year 9 Form and my Year 7 classes.
What did you do before you joined Downsend?
I was an English teacher and Head of A-Level English at a large school in Epsom.
What’s your best memory from your own school days?
Definitely my English lessons!
If you could grow up in any decade, which would you choose?
Probably the sixties – no social media and great music.
What are your “trapped on a desert island” books?
I have many. My favorites would be ‘The Return of the Native’, ‘The Railway Children’, and ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’.
If you could pass on one piece of wisdom to your students, what would you share?
Enjoy your youth and try not to waste time worrying about things you can’t control.
Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
‘We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.’ Oscar Wilde.
A fun fact we might not know about you?
This summer I went llama trekking and loved it!
