Tim Pearne, Junior School Leader of Learning and Innovation
In our first instalment of the Teacher Spotlight Series after half term, we are pleased to introduce you to Tim Pearne, who joined Downsend last September as Junior School Leader of Learning and Innovation. In this weekly series we pay homage to our teachers who are dedicated to providing every child with the most innovative and inspiring learning experience. This week we are also expanding our Ed-Tech and rolling out our 1-to-1 devices programme, where we equip all students in Year 3 and above with their own personal laptop for use in school and at home.
Welcome to Downsend School! How was your first day?
Thank you, my first day was exciting and terrifying in equal measure! The staff have been incredibly welcoming and I’m so thankful to everyone for going out of their way to make me feel at home and part of the team.
What did you do before you joined Downsend?
Before joining Downsend I taught at Busbridge Junior School in Godalming.
What’s your best memory from school?
Performing the piano to the school during assembly in Year 2 – it was my first ever performance in front of anyone other than my family so my hands were trembling with nerves but I made it through the piece with relatively few mistakes!
If you could grow up in any decade, which would you choose?
I’d have to stick with the 1980s – the music was brilliant and Jack Nicklaus won his 18th major at The Masters!
What are your “trapped on a desert island” books? And why?
‘Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect’, or any other golf psychology books by Dr Bob Rotella, but nowadays it’s more likely to be The Tiger Who Came To Tea just to keep my kids happy!
If you could pass on one piece of wisdom to your students, what would you share?
Anything that’s worth having in life wont come easily; be resilient, determined and patient and you will succeed!
Is there a quote or saying that you live your life by?
‘When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind”. — Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
A fun fact we might not know about you?
I’ve appeared on two gameshows on ITV and a band I used to play drums in was awarded ‘demo of the week’ on BBC Radio 1!
