Downsend is an innovative independent school educating children aged 2 to 13.  It is a thriving and vibrant school that provides a refreshingly different education through a broad-based curriculum leading to outstanding academic success.

Inspiring Young Minds’ is part of our ethos and is central to our approach resulting in creative teaching and learning initiatives and enrichment opportunities for children.

Through-School expansion to GCSE creating new school vacancies.

We will soon be expanding our educational provision through to GCSE – offering a through-school education from aged 2-16 years. With effect from September 2020 we will welcome Year 9 pupils on site for the first time and, in May 2023, our current Year 8 pupils will be the first Downsend pupils to sit GCSEs.

This expansion creates a host of new job opportunities in Surrey for the right people as we prepare Downsend for the next phase of its history.  We are a friendly and supportive team and we are looking for the right people to join us.

So if you are a great practitioner with a level of creativity and innovation to your teaching;  would relish contributing to the extra-curricular life of the school; are ambitious and are happy to challenge and be challenged in a positive way for better outcomes for the children, we want to hear from you.

Teacher of Music (initially 0.6 FTE)

An IAPS, co-educational, day school currently educating children aged 2 to 13, Downsend is a thriving and vibrant school which provides a refreshingly different education through a broad-based curriculum leading to outstanding academic success. From 2020, we will be accepting Year 9 pupils for the first time in preparation for our move to a GCSE provision. At this exciting time, we are looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational individual who will support the Head of Music in developing our wealth of musical opportunities, which already includes Choirs and an Orchestra, Ensembles and various Rock Bands.

Teacher of PE & Games

 An IAPS, co-educational, day preparatory school currently educating children aged 2 to 13, Downsend is a thriving and vibrant school which provides a refreshingly different education through a broad-based curriculum leading to outstanding academic success. From 2020, we will be accepting Year 9 pupils for the first time in preparation for our move to a GCSE provision. We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational PE and Games Teacher, with strengths in football and rugby, for our growing school. The successful applicant will ensure a high-quality learning experience for pupils.  A willingness to participate in the extra-curricular life of this busy school is an essential quality.

We are looking for an innovative, inspirational and committed individual to teach all three sciences at GCSE. A Physics or Chemistry specialist would be preferable. The successful candidate will be involved in developing this key area of school life in line with the school’s model of ‘Inspiring Young Minds’, which incorporates excellent STEAM provision and the development of future skills.

School Nurse - Part time

Job Share – Term time only

Required to start as soon as available

 A vacancy has arisen for a School Nurse to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9.00am-4.30pm. The post is based at our Prep School in Leatherhead. A suitably experienced candidate is required to be responsible for the provision of the healthcare needs and to assist with the pastoral care of the 460 pupils.  This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced and flexible individual.  A competitive salary is on offer commensurate with this important term-time only role.
