At Downsend, our admissions process aims to make life as easy as possible. Our steps to enrolment are outlined here and aim to give you a sense of the process we would follow in a ‘normal’ year. We continue to consult government guidelines to ensure we are Covid-compliant at all times, and will consult with applicants to ensure you are kept up to date on our assessment processes.
Make contact with us
We are available to take enquiries all year round, and welcome an informal conversation about how we can support you in deciding which school is right for your child.
To get a real insight into what makes Downsend so special, we would usually like to invite you to an Open Day. In light of the current situation, we will be running Online Open Mornings to give you a feel for Downsend. Private tours are currently still available with carefully managed procedures in place to maintain social distance at all times.
Register your child for a place
Once you have finalised your decision we will ask you to complete our registration paperwork and pay your registration fee. Our Admissions Team will contact you to confirm it has all been received safely. The team is available by telephone or email to answer any further questions you may have. Following your registration, we will keep in touch with you every step of the way. To access our Registration Form please click here.
We would normally run a series of ‘Experience and Assessment’ days at the school. However, in order to remain Covid-compliant, we have made the decision to adapt our assessment process as follows:
- We will ask you for a current school report and a reference when you register with us.
- We will then liaise with you to organise for an assessment to take place at your child’s current school. We invariably undertake online assessments so this can be easily facilitated and invigilated.
- We will organise a 20 minute video call via MS Teams for both yourself and your child to meet with a member of the academic team and to have an informal discussion – we usually ask for your child to bring an item of interest as an ice-breaker for a friendly and relaxed starting point. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.
- We have scheduled assessment decision dates in November, January and March. Once decisions have been made, we will aim to make offers within 2 weeks.
Receiving an offer
We endeavour to give you enough time to make your decision but please be aware that our offers will be time-limited. Where we can offer a place straight away, we will. But as places are subject to availability, your child may be added to a waiting list.
Confirm your child's place at Downsend
To secure your child’s place, simply complete and return the necessary paperwork by the deadline given, together with the £750 deposit.
As part of our induction process, your child will be invited to spend a morning or afternoon with us prior to joining the main school. You can also meet with Senior Staff to discuss your child’s transition into Downsend.
