Steps to Enrol

Steps to Enrol

Choosing the right school for your child doesn’t need to be hard work. At Downsend, our quick and easy to follow admissions process aims to make life as easy as possible. Follow our step by step guide to enrolment here.

Step 1

Make contact with us

We are available to take enquiries all year round, and welcome an informal conversation about how we can support you in deciding which School is right for your child.

Step 2

Visit us

To get a real insight into what makes Downsend so special, come to one of our Open Events meet and hear from our Head, take a tour of the school and meet our children and staff.

Private tours are available anytime during term time and are conducted by a member of the School Leadership Team.

At the end of the tour our Admissions Team will answer any questions you may have and will provide you with a Registration form.

Book your place now.

Step 3

Register your child for a place

Once you have finalised your decision we ask you to complete our Registration Form and return to our Admissions Team with your Registration fee.

Our Admissions Team will contact you to confirm receipt of your form and fee and is always available by telephone or email to answer any further questions you may have. Following your registration we will keep in touch with you every step of the way.

Step 4

Attend one of our 'Experience & Assessment' and 'Fun & Assessment' Days

After your registration form has been received, our Admissions Team will contact you to arrange for your child to visit us. These activities differ depending on the age group. At Little Downsend we like to meet each child by inviting them to our toddler groups (Rhyme Time, Forest Tots or Tots in Tune), to see how they settle into the environment.

For children joining the Junior and Senior Schools, we run a series of events to make sure they feel settled and enjoy experiencing Downsend. Children will have a buddy to help them during the day, experience fun activities around the School and get a taste of Downsend life. As part of this, they will undertake assessments – informally and more formally, so we can ensure they are the right academic fit for Downsend.

Junior School (Year 2 – 6):  ‘Fun & Assessment Days’ will take place on 20th November and 18th & 19th January.

Senior School (Year 7 only):  ‘Experience & Assessment Days’ are provisionally scheduled to take place on 13th & 19th November and 22nd January.

Senior School (Year 8+):  ‘Experience & Assessment Days’ are provisionally scheduled to take place on 26th November and 23rd January.

Step 5

Receiving your offer of a place

Year 7  – We will make offers in February.

Additional year groups – We will contact you shortly after your individual assessment.

We endeavour to give you enough time to make your decision but please be aware that our offers will be time limited. Where we can offer a place straight away, we will.  But as places are subject to availability, your child may be added to a waiting list.

Step 6

Confirm your child's place at Downsend

To secure your child’s place, simply complete and return the necessary paperwork by the deadline given, together with the £750 deposit.

As part of our induction process, your child will be invited to spend a settling in session at Little Downsend, or a morning or afternoon with us prior to joining the main school.  You can also meet with Senior Staff to discuss your child’s transition into Downsend.
