Going to School in England
At Downsend we help and support families from overseas who are relocating to the UK and wish to experience the globally respected British School education system and start on their journey to a highly prized British qualification. It is also a fantastic opportunity for families to immerse themselves in the true British multicultural society and heritage and as a multi-denominational school Downsend welcomes children and families from all cultural backgrounds.
We have a dedicated International recruitment manager Tim Brogan-Shaw who will be pleased to help families with Admissions support from confirming if we have spaces, application assistance, through to Tier 4 VISA application assistance. He will be on hand by telephone or email to answer any questions so please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call +44 (0)7880 277954 if you require further information and he’ll be pleased to help.
When completing an application, please ensure you have enclosed the following items:
- Completed application form with full contact details for student and parent/guardian
- Your official transcripts from your previous school, both in their original language and translated into English
- A copy of your passport. Note that if a passport is not available at the time of an application, only a conditional offer can be issued before confirmation
- A copy of any previous Tier 4 visas with relevant transcripts for that institution (if any)
- UK School reference for students transferring from a UK school (if any)
For families working with an agent in their own country, your agent will be happy to return an application on your behalf.
For agents looking for assistance and not currently in contact with Cognita schools, please contact Tim Brogan-Shaw directly.
Following the application, students will need to pass an English and Maths assessment in order to make sure they have good enough English language skills and academic level to access the school curriculum.
We will then write to you making a formal ‘offer of a place’ and in order to secure and accept this place, we’ll then ask you to pay a deposit, currently set at £6,000.
Please remember, Tim is there to help make the experience as smooth as possible at what can be a very challenging but exciting time for families.

Registration Fee and Deposit
On registering your child a registration fee of £100 is requested and an acceptance deposit of £6,000 is required the term before entry.
Relocation to the UK represents a momentous move requiring very careful consideration. Selecting the right school for your child is one of the most important and influential choices you will make for them in their young lives. A well-matched school will help your child immensely as they orientate themselves in a new country and a new peer group.
When reviewing your options, we recommend that you consider not only a school’s academic profile but also its environment and location; curriculum and pastoral care; facilities and extra-curricular activities; sporting and artistic achievements and religious and cultural standing.
Joining an Downsend Open day or taking a Private Tour is of course the best way to experience the school and to help you decide our suitability. However, we appreciate this is not always possible and so Tim Brogan-Shaw our International Recruitment Manager will be here to assist you remotely. He will be on hand by telephone or email to answer any questions you may have concerning Admission to Downsend school and to help you along the process. You can reach him on email@example.com or by phone +44 (0)7880 277954 and he’ll be pleased to help.
