Ashtead Pre-Prep – Diwali
Today was full of fun and excitement as all the children enthusiastically learned about and celebrated the Hindu festival of lights – Diwali. The festival marks the start of the Hindu year. For many Indians, this five day festival honours Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth. Lamps are lit to help Lakshmi find her way into people’s homes. Intricate Rangoli patterns are created at the entrance of houses to welcome the goddess and today some of these amazing designs were recreated in the classrooms along with beautiful diyas. However, the highlight of the day has to be the fantastic Indian Dance workshops where the children really entered into the spirit of the festival, moving creatively to the Indian music. A brilliant day of cultural learning. Take look on Facebook to see videos of Rising Reception and Year One’s dances.
