Ashtead Pre-Prep – STEAM Week
It has definitely been full STEAM ahead this week as we totally embraced this addition to our curriculum. The launch started with a FIZZ and a BANG as Jack from Genie Lab wowed us with the power of air. The children watched amazed as they saw the effects of taking air away or adding more to a variety of materials. On Tuesday, two of the Downsend STEAM team visited us with some mystery boxes and bubbles to investigate. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to establish our STEAM links with the Main Site staff and one that we are both hoping to explore further in the future. ‘Hands on STEM’ arrived yesterday with a structural problem to be solved. In pairs, the children created a strong base shape with sticks and bands and then as a team, they worked together to make a spectacular triangular based pyramid. It was big enough for Reception to all sit inside! Finally, today has been an engineering day with a twist as the weather added to the excitement. In next week’s newsletter you will be able to read about the day in full. The week has been such good fun and we have loved seeing the children collaborate on projects and also watching the thrills that they received from their successes. Thank you to all the Ashtead Pre-Prep staff for going above and beyond.
