Last Friday, our Year 12 students visited Battersea Power Station to explore the business thinking behind one of London’s biggest regeneration projects.
Working from the Engine Room co-working space, students explored how a major regeneration project becomes a successful commercial hub - analysing retail positioning, customer experience, brand strategy and the business decisions behind it all.
They developed their own proposals for new retail concepts and social campaigns, before pitching their ideas to Melissa McBride, Co-Founder and CEO of Sophia Technologies.
A brilliant opportunity for our students to apply business thinking in a real, commercial environment, while also building confidence and future-ready skills along the way.

It’s been a wonderfully festive week at Downsend as we head towards the end of term. Year 4 took to the stage for their Nativity on Wednesday, followed by Year 3 today - both full of enthusiasm, confidence and perfectly executed!
Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils have also been getting festive, carol signing at St Georges Church in Ashtead.

Last night, Downsend Sixth was thrilled to welcome Squash Falconer - record-breaking adventurer, Everest summiteer and the first British woman to paraglide from Mont Blanc, to launch our Tie Talks series.
Squash shared the extraordinary highs and honest challenges of her journeys, offering powerful insights into resilience, mindset, preparation and what it really takes to face your own “Everest”.

At Downsend, preparing our students with future-ready skills is central to everything we do, and this week our Year 12s continued that journey with a new approach to developing their communication and employability skills.
Through @cognitaschools collaboration with @bodyswaps.vr, students have been using VR headsets to practice real-world scenarios such as job interviews, public speaking and debating, designed to give our students a taste of the professional world.
Each module guides them through interactive tasks before providing personalised, AI-powered feedback to help refine communication, confidence and other essential soft skills.
