William Blake’s tiger may have ‘burned bright’ in his famous poem, but today, ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’ descended on Downsend to give Little Downsend’s Year 1 children a fun-filled morning. The children worked with a Drama specialist to improvise elements of the story, created strawberry and banana smoothies with Mrs Haywood to replace drinks guzzled by the greedy tiger from the story and they used collages to create jungle inspired habitats for a tiger with Mr Popham, Head of Year 3. Today’s workshop brought together the very best of what Downsend has to offer. Creative learning coupled with inspiring spaces ignited the Year 1s imaginations. Reflecting on the morning, Lisa Burns, Head of Little Downsend said “we cannot wait to read the innovated versions of the story that the children are now inspired to write”. This event was part of our series of specially designed transition events that we organise during the academic year for our Little Downsend children. It was fantastic to have you here, Year 1. Till the next time!
